Day 1 and 40 pounds to go. Here Goes Nothing!

What was I thinking?

Maybe it's just a mild panic attack about the idea of turning 40, or maybe this is just another phase in my budding, menopausal, full fledged raging hormones, foaming at the mouth mid-life crisis, but lately I seem to be a glutton for punishment and public humiliation. Why else would I willingly decide to post my age and my weight issues on the internet for all the world to see and mock? (Well at least anyone with a computer, an internet connection and an odd inclination for reading obscure blogs by an aging, slightly overweight wanna be writer).

But then nothing motivates me like the threat of public humiliation and if my weight problems and self esteem issues can be put to good use then that's just a bonus. So while I'm losing weight in order to become a more healthy and active me, (and let's be perfectly honest, because I want to be able to look at myself in a full length mirror wearing some hot little black dress or tankini and actually think.."hot damn, I am one sexy momma!") as an added incentive I've decided to not only go public with my goal of becoming fabulous by forty, but to raise funds and awareness about the growing problem of poverty and hunger in our communities.

I am asking friends, family and, what the heck, strangers alike to sponsor me on a per pound basis for total pounds lost (or lump sum donation) by my 40th birthday. All monies raised in my weight loss campaign will go directly to Hamilton Food Share to help feed the over 19,600 people who use food banks in our community every month. Anything over $10.00 will receive a charitable tax receipt from Hamilton Food Share.

So it's Day 1 and 11 weeks to go before the end if this challenge and then on to the ultimate goal of shedding 35 to 40 pounds before I reach my medically fit weight for my height. I welcome all comments, diet tips, nutrition advice and exercise routines. I also appreciate all forms of support be they monetary for Food Share, advice and encouragement, or just relentless teasing and torment.

Here goes nothing!

Hey look, the comments section does work!
Nathalie, ma belle, j'ai perdu 45 Lbs par dancer! Oh, English.. woops.. I lost 45 Lb by dancing! Belly Dancing, mambo, and those videos I gave you. Don't eat after 9pm, cut cheese down to once a week and the size amount equal to your thumb, and cut the stress out of your life. That's how I did it.

xoxo Kittana

Great advice from Kittana! Way back when I remember your sexy body, I used to keep fit by dancing, but that was in bars. A little different. I've heard that lots of little meals helps.

Perhaps besides sponsoring I'll also see what I can do for my own weight by your 40th. Mine's already passed, but that doesn't mean I can get all flabby.

I know you can do it!!

Way to go Nat!!!! I'll go lump sum cuz I think 40 in how many days??? is much.....Been doing WW for the past 6 months and have dropped over 30 in an easy 'keep it off for life' rate - their methods are pretty sound and make good sense - we can talk...... :)
My 'tip' is check the chart with your doctor -- I'd be dead if I went down as far as WW says I should go - doc has me at a good 30 more than their chart for my optimum healthy weight -- there's no WAY IMO you need to loose 40 - can't see it.
Good luck - dance when you can like no one's watching!!!

Good on you for this! I like the dance suggestions. And the don't eat after 9 pm (or at least after a full dinner) is also good advice. The many small meal or only 3 meals (with at least 5 hours between) is both valid, depends on peoples metabolisms - you may want to try both. I believe you wanted to try just journaling all you eat in your first week. Good idea as it will also show when and what are your week spots - so you can concentrate on that! Good luck! Question - is there a way of keep track of how much you will be accumulating for Food Share (separate section on this blog? - don't know not computer savy enough) Your sister Jojo

Thanks everyone for all the great tips and advice. I'll try it all.

Jojo's right, this week I'm writing down everything I eat and trying to kick the sugar & chips habit (big weakness). And right, I need to track how much I've lost & how much I'm raising.
Each new blog will start with my progress, and I'll think about tracking donations.
Thanks again!

Hiya Wonder Woman...

This is your sister...Chantal de Montréal...

Besies the ''cabbage soup diet'' which you did and I got from you ( which is a fabulous crash diet before heading to the beach'' but is short lived)...the thing that works best for me is a very light ''healthy' lunch...'cause I have more willpower during the day. So I have a tossed salad with a piece of multigrain bread and a coffee...or a sandwich ( again multigrain bread) and a coffee ( no snacks all day - that is why I don't have any money on me, so I don't cheat and buy a bag of chips or something...)

Also, I never have any desserts in my house..if I need a sugar fix , I go out and get it..and at night..I'm usually too lazy to go...

Anyhow...love the blogue, will follow you thru.

I asked a fairly qualified friend and she suggested...

CARDIO CARDIO and leafy greens. If you eat chicken, turkey, lots of leafy greens, spinach (cooked for the nutrients) limit the amount of fruits or types (high sugar content = bad carbs) you will lose weight. Also eat lots of grapefruits & tomatoes (not together though).

Walking is a good start.. i walked off 40 lbs one summer by eating fish, asparagus, spinach and walking.. a lot.. Swimming is also a good one...

Hope that's useful!
