First and foremost, let me say a GIANT THANK YOU to all of you amazing friends and family who are being so supportive of this little endeavor. Not just the great comments and tips I am getting on this site, but through e-mails and facebook. You've given me some great ideas, and I plan to try everything till I find what works best for me. If I get the green light, I will share some of the amazing advice I've received so far.
Thank you also for all the pledges of support for Hamilton Food Share. It is definitely a worthy cause. I will post donation information at the bottom of this blog.
OK,so down to business. I can officially report that as of my weigh-inn (carefully monitored by my merciless task masters, Debbie and Annette..thanks ladies), that I am now a full 4 pounds lighter. Well, it's a start I guess. Not quite the stellar start I was hoping for with the initial shedding of the water weight. But then, I haven't done any radical dieting this week.
Week one has consisted mostly of just writing down everything I eat (which is enough to curb allot of bad habits right there when you have to stare at it in black and white....I ate how many bags of popcorn with that movie???) And I worked on (and still working on) losing the sugar addiction. Hey..I haven't had any chocolate this week, and miraculously..no one in my immediate vicinity has died! Though the neighbourhood dogs are turning tale and running at the sight of me. Guess that makes me the scariest biatch on the block now:)
Haven't gone cold turkey on the morning and evening timmi's with double cream yet though..let's not get crazy. Innocent lives are at stake. I will work on at least switching to (ugh) Milk.
Activity wise, I've heard it said that the latest research suggests that to lose weight you need to do 90 minutes of vigorous exercises per day. Well..that is well beyond my energy level or available time. I am, however, making a point of doing some sort of physical activity everyday. I have karate lessons twice a week, which helps. I try biking to work at least once a week, and if I don't have allot of time, 10 to 15 minutes of cardio or running in the morning and at night.
I've been been thinking of joining an intense 10 week boot camp program, the problem is finding the time. Any tips on creative ways of fitting in working out in a busy life would be appreciated.
That's my progress so far. Thanks again to all my friends and followers (woot, woot..I have 4 official followers on my blog. I feel like John Grisham!:)
For my local pledgers,I will contact you directly to collect your donations at the end of this campaign. That's all for this week beautiful people. Soon I will start posting some (eeekk) before shots. But, that's just so I can stun you all with the "after" photos when I'm a hot tamale of a beach bunny::)) Till then, be well, and in the words of a very wise fish.."just keep swimming!"

I have an answer for the Tim Horton's coffee situation!
This may sound ridiculous, but... get better coffee. I grew up in a 'little europe' neighbourhood with Italian cafés. Little old men sitting around all day watching soccer, eating panini and drinking the best coffee ever - BLACK.
Good coffee doesn't need cream or sugar.
I've been drinking my coffee black ever since high school. No cream fats or sugar calories. But I don't get it at Tim's. That stuff tastes like nicotine to me. A good black coffee leaves a fresh aftertaste, and the coffee cup even smells good when it gets cold. Dried up milk doesn't do well in your coffee, nor in your guts.
Cheers!
LOL....Laurie may have a point but I can tell you that I have double cream (18%) in my fresh ground free trade coffee everyday and I will NOT give that up -- dunno where you are getting your information about exercise - you have GOT to stop watching Greatest Loser on TV - that is not real! WW says 30 minutes a day and that's everything from running after kids, cleaning the house, walk around the block etc - It's great that you have a goal and we're all behind you ~ you still want to do it right, right? lol...so treat yourself to the cream and cut the chocolate - there's a deal I could live with - I'm down 33 but I'm not on your tight schedule! Four in your first week is AWESOME!

gee
Well Nat...I recently started a 12 week intensive boot camp. Actually just did my second session. Let me tell you it friggin kills BUT you do come out of it feeling like you have actually accomplished something. I only wish you were in Caledonia and we could do it together because I think it would be easier with a friend. Anyway, my point is, my trainer sends me little mini boot camp workouts that I can do at home in between the days I go. I can send you them if you want. If you can't make it to boot camp I can bring boot camp to you. It's worth a shot. Sometimes not knowing what to do is half the battle.
Thanks for the tips. I'll try black...but it'll be tough:) And thank Michelle, would love some boot camp advice.
Gee..33 WOW! That's awesome, and inspiring. And don't worry, I have no intention of trying to incorporate 90 minutes of working out a day. I couldn't find the time even if I had the energy:) Just repeating what I heard on CBC (not kidding). I couldn't believe it either. That's just unrealistic.
Hey! I've been reading your post this week and here is a tip I have for exercise: When doing cardio, you start losing fat after 20min. So I suggest you do 25 or 30 min. three times a week (three times a week is the min. for bigger results... at least that's what I learned last semester in my gym class) The time might be an issue, but I hope it helps a little, good luck!!!
:)
Maybe you could save time with a half hour of vigiourous activity each night during a time you'd be just sorta lying in bed... Just a thought....

oh haha...very funny anonymous not! I'll take it under advisement
Finding the correct time to exercise is not easy. I find I am too tired and not enough energy in the evening. The best time for me is late morning - but work kind of interferes with that schedule (darn!) - So if you can incorporate it with your travelling schedule great. I have not biked to work for a while, but plan to start soon - that helps a lot and if I travel by bus, I try to walk 15 minutes to the bus stop (following the bus route so I don't miss the bus between bus stops - though it has happened..so need to keep an eye on the traffic coming!)
And by the way, congratulations on the first 4 pounds this week. Since you were really not dieting, but rather noting everything you eat, I think you did great!
A bientot

(P.S. I am not officially a follower, just because I have not quite figured out how to do it - hmm sorry i am a bit blog illiterate)

Hi Gnat - I'm insanely impressed that you are taking this on - way to go!!
I have some tips for tracking your food and exercise, and kicking the sugar habit:
I used www.nutridiary.com when I was losing weight before TJ. It's a free online diary for tracking what you eat, exercise, weight and inches goals etc. Very helpful.
I'm trying (again) to kick my sugar habit. I'm reading Potatoes Not Prozac by Kathleen DesMaisons. She has a 7 step program to balance your insulin, seratonin and beta-endorphins by losing your sugar addiction. And it helps control mood swings and depression.
I'm just starting into it now but it makes sense so far. Her Tip # 1 - Eat Breakfast within 1 hour of waking (and that's not just a coffee). Seems simple but it really helps.
Keep up the good work!!!
LOL.....just how anonymous is Anonymous!!!????? lol....
Good luck - I will not give up my cream!!! heehee....

LOL...Nat I really enjoyed your new post ( 2nd post) You certainly have a way with words...you always make me laugh..
You know waht a big fan of your writting I am..
Anyhow, back to the subject at hand....
My exercise tip...actually I hate exercise...so I don't do it...What I do is use my bike as my main mode of transportation..As soon as Spring arrives....my bike gets a tune-up and that's how I get around...I don't buy a bus pass..so I have to bike everywhere. Started that yesterday..and really loving it.
Keep up the great work Nat..
